Forget the marketing talk of 150,000:1 contrast ratio etc. All you need to know is that as of August, 2009, there are very few TVs that beat this set in terms of black level. (local dimming LED LCD TVs, and a few high-end plasmas to be precise, and even then – only just!).

I’m going to focus more on what the issues are with this TV, bearing in mind that I think this is an excellent set.

1.) Gaming lag. For those that say there isn’t any – your standards may not be high enough. With Game Mode set to OFF, Call of Duty, Rock Band, Hot Shots Golf etc are simply unplayable. With Game Mode set to ON, these games are quite playable. How acceptable is very dependent on the person. I have no trouble, personally, with Game Mode ON, but Game Mode off was a nightmare. You lose the benefits of 240hz AMP with Game Mode ON, but this is a VERY acceptable trade-off, and I have no trouble playing games in an essential 60hz mode.

2.) Viewing angles. They’re NOT very good. At a little less than 10 feet away from my 46″ B750, the left side of my TV washes out if I scoot a little to the right, and the right side washes out if I scoot a little to the left of the TV. This is a definite issue, and is worse than my last year’s Samsung LN46A650. At Best Buy etc you will NOT see these defects as the ambient light overpowers any viewing angle discrepancies. At home, in a dimly-lit movie room, or showing darker material, these problems will become more apparent – glaring in fact.

3.) Clouding/flashlighting: This has been an issue for several generations of Samsung LCDs, and 2009 is no exception. Again, this is not something you’ll notice in a storefront because the lighting overpowers the problem, but at home, back in that very same dimly-lit room, especially showing darker material, you’ll notice the splotches of lighter colored areas on the screen. Some are worse than others. If you never watch TV in a darker environment with dark material, chances are you’ll never notice the problem. If your TV was delivered, like most people’s sets are, during the day, you will NOT see this issue until night closes in.

4.) While the see-through TV stand stalk is very pretty and gives the impression of a “floating” TV, it makes hiding the power cable and video/audio cables impossible, as they are normally hidden by a solid stalk. So yes, very pretty, but non-functional, as you can see the cables trailing down behind the see-through stem. A little annoying!

I know this sounds like doom and gloom, but it really isn’t. This is an excellent set. I love mine. Definitely the best CCFL LCD Samsung has put out to date, but still in need of a bit of work on their quality control. I simply won’t defend something just because I bought it – this is a great TV, but it does have some problems that Samsung should work hard to overcome.

This set is fantastic once you get it up and running. The picture is so life like it is unreal and that is to a typical T.V. Antenna; however, here is what some of the problems are. It tries to tell me that the serial number is not a good one and that this product isn’t on the market until May 2010, Yea right, I then trying to hook it up to the internet. What a pain. My home network recognized it being hooked up but at first it however, the set told me it wasn’t there, said there was no connection. Then finally it did recognize it.
I try to activate the divx feature on it and then it tells me that the Divx code that is preset in this plasma set is not a valid code, I try contacting Samsung and finally got a support e-mail, I even attached pictures to the e-mail of the set serial number and model number, That sure was a waste of time, they e-mail me back and said that was Webb page design problem and for me to contact them myself. (I really don’t know how to do that, without an e-mail address or phone number). After all it is their cooperation and they should have done whatever it takes to correct the problem.
I then try to use Microsoft multi-media is looking for an 8 digit code and this has a 10 digit code.

Finally had a neighbor that is an I.T. Geek check it out after about 1 hour the network and the TV now finally recognized each other so that I now can access my home computer through the set as to watch movies that are on file on my computer. Now, this is for the final complaint part. You should be able to upgrade the T.V. software from the set itself my means of the internet, I try to access it and now there is no such luck with that since there is an error (400) pops up. My guess it is looking for the model and serial number as it is interfacing with the Samsung server and since it not a registered it will not allow it to happen.
Samsung needs to make sure that the TV and development engineers, along with technical support and Webb page design need to make sure that customers like me are happy when they make it easy and simple, and easy to contact their customer support without jumping through hoops, and not have to go to the neighbors. So I still not able to access Divx., or have the product proper registered, and be able to download the up graded software.

The Samsung PN58B650 58-inch Plasma HDTV is such an improvement over my conventional CRT-TV I can’t even begin to tell you! The picture quality is just outstanding for a screen this large (with connection to my new DISH TV VIP satellite TV DVR, which stores 350 hours of Standard Definition TV and 55 hours of HDTV recordings). The sound is OK, but this becomes irrelevant when connected to a home theater receiver and with quality speakers.
With 4 HDMI inputs, there is sufficient connection to auxilliary components including Blue Ray players which contain HDMI outputs if you wish to make direct connections to your TV. A better method is to connect all components to your upscaling home theater receiver with ONE HDMI output to your HDTV panel. There are also many standard input/output connection solutions on this TV, and there is optical digital sound output which can be fed back into your home theater receiver or other devices.
I’m impressed with the ability to connect this TV to the internet for connection to widgets (weather, stocks, news, etc), but you have to be patient for things to happen since it’s not so INSTANT as PC response would be. You can connect a flash drive to view your pictures and movies stored on them. You can also connect this TV through USB connection to your own desktop computer or laptop computer to navigate to your picture and movie files there.
I’m very pleased with this TV overall and got a terrific deal from Amazon.com with a $300 discount. The TV was delivered by 2 guys in a van who brought the TV into my home, unboxed it and tested it for picture and sound with my cable connection. I found a beautiful 3-shelf black glass stand at Best Buy to place my new Samsung HDTV upon with all components on shelves below and it’s stunningly beautiful.

This is a great water filter and it gets plenty of use in my household. If anything I could say “I wish it held more water,” (I drink 3+ litres of water a day and it seems that I am always filling the darned thing up) – but that would be an unreasonable request. Who would want a dispenser so large that it would be unwieldy to carry to the refrigerator? No one – not even me. So I bought a second one so that one of them is always full! This dispenser is slim so that I can easily fit two side by side in my refrigerator. (Can’t have too much of a good thing!) And this filter/dispenser is definitely good – it has a large fill “basket” and the 2 stage filter produces water that is completely taste and odor free. I could easily tell the difference in my drinking water! Lastly, the filters (with usage indicators) are long-lasting. I have filled my first dispenser twice a day for 1 1/2 months and it still hasn’t reached the half way point. Very impressive results! Highly recommend.

My wife and I have immensely enjoyed the wonderful water we get from our Pur filtration pitcher, which uses the same filters as this dispenser.

It’s very convenient — just pour water into the top, and it will, albeit slowly, drip through the filter. Over time, as the filter clogs, it will get slower, so the key is to add more water every time you pour more out — that way, it’s filtering while you are drinking and you aren’t waiting.

It’s actually much more convenient than the faucet-mount filters, which inevitably leak and get painfully slow and force you to wait…

Pur is better than Brita, by the way, if you get the Ultimate filters, which filter out cryptosporidium and giardia in addition to chemicals and gunk. Brita doesn’t do that; it’s an important feature if you have iffy water systems (Mexico, Russia) or a weak immune system…

Before ordering this mattress, I went to a local mattress store, laid around on a Tempurpedic, and looked at the foam. I explored on the net and found e-mattress.com, which was selling a Queen 10-inch Sensus foam mattress for about $1000 (the Tempurpedic price is about $2000). The e-mattress version of Sensus memory foam has nice quilting around the sides and a zip-off top for easy cleaning, whereas this Amazon Queen mattress has just a simple plush cotton covering on the mattress, which zips around the bottom — the same covering the Tempurpedic uses. The key thing was that the e-mattress version of Sensus got a rave revue from Money Magazine, which said that Sensus was the best alternative to Tempurpedic, and the Sensus company is no fly-by-night foam outfit. So I ordered this Amazon version of Sensus — figured I didn’t need the fancy cover for an extra $300. And I sure didn’t need Tempurpedic for an extra $1300. And besides, ordering this mattress from Amazon I got a 12-inch mattress instead of 10 inches.

I managed to track down the selling company (not easy — it is Merit Mart, 800-774-8685)and talked to them by phone, verifying (to my satisfaction) that they get the foam from Sensus and simply add the cotton covering before shipping it out.

The shipping had no tracking, and the mattress took about 2-3 weeks to arrive. Nervous moments. But it was as described: 5 inches of Sensus (pink memory foam) bonded to a 7-inch base layer. The difference between this mattress and the Tempurpedic is that Tempurpedic uses two layers of base foam with two “egg-crate” interfaces; i.e., the bond of memory foam to the first base layer is solid to egg-crate, and the bond of first layer to second (bottom) layer is solid to egg-crate.

I believe the Tempurpedic gives a softer, more conforming feel because of the egg-crate bonds between the layers, and I wish this mattress used that approach. When you first lie down on the Sensus mattress, you feel a bit like you’re lying on a plank, but then you sink in and get comfortable. I wake up without sore spots, and I can lie in positions that used to be uncomfortable on my previous Soft Beauty Rest (a hugely plush pillow top that started to develop sags after only a couple of years of use — this mattress felt super comfortable when you first lay down, but then you would feel the pressure points).

So I am extremely satisfied. There is no written warranty statement per se, only the seller’s affirmation that the first 10 years is a manufacturer’s warranty (Sensus) and the second 10 years is their warranty. This seller was very light on paperwork (no tracking). But then, are you really going to return this mattress?? It is HEAVY. The delivery guy helped me wrassle it into the bedroom and thank goodness because there’s no way a lone woman is going to do it.

I absolutely love the gorgeous album I purchased from Cozee World! Upon opening the carefully wrapped purchase, I gasped at the beauty of the album I had only seen in pictures. Usually, things are not as nice as they look online. Not the case here, though. The entire album is very unique because all parts of it, inside and out, are made from natural materials – no plastic, rubber, or anything synthetic. The design in the center of the outside cover brings one closer to noticing the detail created in the natural leaves, sprigs and seashells used to make and create this great album. Best of all, the separation pages, set between very heavy natural dividers on which your items may be stored, is archival paper. I am storing my father’s love letters to my mother, written during WWII, in this album. They are already like parchment, and I feel secure knowing that no plastic will come into contact with them. I urge you to purchase several of these inexpensive and beautiful albums for yourself and for gifts. I plan to purchase many more!
